Can Terrarium compared with the Earth?

Terrarium is a art of growing small plants in small glass containers. These are attractive decorations. There are Open terrariums and closed terrariums. Open terrariums need lot of attention, while closed terrariums need little or no attention. But open terrariums has wider range of possibilities.

When you choose plants for terrarium, you should look for several facts. The most important thing is the plant should be native to the climate. And also they should be reproduced. Small ferns, Mosses, Ivy are some of the examples. Remember, most of the people think terrarium is only for plants. But it’s for animals too. (But remember one thing. Animals are not staying in one place. They go around a particular area, or sometimes around the world. So please don’t ever think to keep animals as terrariums. Enjoy them by watching coming to your front yard, eating fruits or leaves around. But don’t try to keep them to you. They have to have their freedom as you like your freedom)

Mostly terrariums are done using glass containers, because it will give a nice view from the outside. But there are various and beautiful terrariums made from various other things like wood.

Science behind closed terrarium

A closed terrarium is little like our world. Only thing is we can control the things with in our terrarium, but we can’t control anything in the world. When the living plants are in the closed container with soil and little bit of water, all the nutrition and the water is recycled. It’s rare you want to put water from outside. Plants are releasing CO2 in the night and in the day time they use sunlight, CO2 and water to make O2. But in this process energy is generating as a form of heat too. As a result of this the system can be over heat since there is no escape for this heat. So the plants can die. Due to this reason you have to open the terrarium once in a while.

Terrarium and Earth

Remember, we can’t completely compare a closed terrarium with the real world. In real world there are lot of biological things happening. World cannot survive with only plants, because plants don’t release enough CO2 even to recycle the photosynthesis. So the plants also die in the process. The world need a well balanced of animals to produce CO2 and use O2. And enough plants to use that CO2 and release O2. Not only these two. There are other things, like sunlight, water, bio organisms like fungi, bacteria… all these things are need to have a well balanced nature.  Unbalance of any of these will effect the nature.

Now all the problems we facing in this world is due to this unbalance. Growing plants is not enough. We don’t know how many microorganisms we destroying in each day without knowing. There has to be lot of other facts even sciencetists has not yet figured it out. I like this, the biggest Terrarium we know (The Earth) regain its balance. So we all live happily.
